The Valencian town of Algemesí mourns the loss of Alejandra Villegas, 43, and her two-year-old son Samuel, brutally murdered by Leonardo David A. R., a 34-year-old man of Colombian origin.
The double crime, which took place in the early hours of June 25 on Parque Salvador Castell Street, exposes the fragility of a protection system that the left claims is flawless. Alejandra confessed to friends the day before: “I have to leave him, because he’s going to kill me.”
The attacker stabbed Alejandra more than ten times in the back and strangled little Samuel with a cable. After the act, he showered and changed clothes, as if he could wash away his guilt. “I’ve done something terrible,” he admitted upon being arrested by the National Police.
The community, which viewed the couple as stable, is in shock at the revelation of a history of unreported abuse. Alejandra, a Venezuelan seeking a better future in Spain, lived under constant threat but never filed a formal complaint.
Her sister-in-law Leidy revealed that “she didn’t want to report him so he wouldn’t lose his papers.” Alejandra’s absence from the Viogen system, designed to protect women at risk, highlights the gaps in a system that progressives passionately defend but leaves victims unprotected.
The maternal grandmother, 67 and with early-stage Alzheimer’s, heard the fatal argument but was unable to intervene due to a locked door. She went out to the street seeking help, a futile effort that underscores the isolation of victims in the face of an ineffective system.
Where were the preventive measures so loudly touted by the left? The statistics are clear: in the Valencian Community, reports of gender-based violence rose by 6% in 2025, but protection orders dropped by 7%, according to the Observatory Against Domestic Violence.
This is not an isolated failure but a systemic tragedy that progressives prefer to cover up with empty rhetoric. Leonardo David A. R. faces charges for double murder, one against a vulnerable victim, and is in provisional detention without bail, as ruled by the Alzira judge.
But official condolences, like those from delegate Pilar Bernabé, will not bring Alejandra or Samuel back. The left, with its obsession with political correctness, ignores real victims while getting lost in rhetoric.
This crime didn’t need hashtags; it needed action. How many more Alejandras must die before the system wakes up?
