At the Museum of the Bible, Donald Trump linked the defense of religious freedom with the launch of a national prayer crusade.
With the support of organizations like CatholicVote, the former president seeks to put God back at the center of public life, heal the wounds of a divided nation, and prepare the United States to celebrate its 250 years as a true “nation under God.”
A Major Victory for Religious Freedom
President Trump: «I am pleased to announce this morning that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidelines to protect the right to prayer in our public schools.»
President Donald Trump marked a pivotal moment for the spiritual future of the United States on September 8 during the second hearing of the Religious Liberty Commission, held at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
There, he not only reaffirmed that the nation needs to reclaim its religious roots to remain strong but also officially introduced the America Prays campaign, a national weekly prayer effort leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Faith as the Foundation of the Nation
In his speech, Trump insisted that religion is not a cultural accessory but the very soul of the American project:
«When faith weakens, our country weakens. When faith strengthens, as it is now, good things happen for our nation.»
For Trump, a great nation necessarily requires God’s presence in public life:
«To have a great nation, you have to have religion. I firmly believe that. There is something beyond all this, and that something is God.»
The president emphasized that his administration has defended religious rights, from repealing policies promoting gender ideology in schools to creating a task force against anti-Christian bias.
He promised to continue vigorously protecting the Judeo-Christian principles that inspired the founding of the United States:
«We must bring religion back to America, stronger than ever.»
Landmark Cases and the Cultural Battle
During the hearing, Trump mentioned young people like Hannah Allen, punished for organizing a school prayer in Texas, and Shay Encinas, a 12-year-old in California forced to read a gender ideology book against his beliefs.
Both cases, according to the president, reflect how faith freedom is being attacked in public schools.
Trump also recalled the recent massacre at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where two children were killed and dozens injured.
He called the attacker “demonic” and assured that his administration will not tolerate terrorism, hate crimes, or political violence. Attorney General Pam Bondi is leading an investigation into patterns of attacks against religious communities.
In parallel, Trump criticized Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, who stated that rights come from the government, not God, saying he should “be ashamed.”
America Prays is Born: A National Prayer Movement
The highlight of the hearing came with the introduction of the America Prays campaign, which calls on Americans to gather weekly in groups of at least ten to pray for the nation, its leaders, families, and world peace.
«We are on the threshold of commemorating 250 years of our independence,» Trump emphasized. «We invite faith communities to dedicate time to pray for our nation, our people, and for peace in the world.»
The initiative was immediately supported by major Christian organizations, including CatholicVote, whose president, Kelsey Reinhardt, stated:
«Nothing is more important than reclaiming the soul of America. Prayer is the essential weapon in this battle. We thank President Trump for leading the way and inspiring citizens to turn their hearts back to God.»
Reinhardt announced that CatholicVote will launch a daily national prayer effort as part of the Jubilee of America, focusing on Eucharistic revitalization, returning to Sunday Mass, devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and creating a network of intercession.
Historical Echoes and Interfaith Unity
The administration explained that America Prays is not just a program but a spiritual revival inspired by the nation’s historical roots. George Washington’s farewell address was cited:
«Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.»
In addition to CatholicVote, the campaign is supported by Samaritan’s Purse, Pray.com, Catholics for Catholics, Hallow, the Southern Baptist Convention, the Faith and Freedom Coalition, and the National Religious Broadcasters. Housing Secretary Scott Turner joined Trump and asked the audience:
«What if a million people prayed every week for our nation until next July 4th? Imagine the miracles: families reconciled, children returning to their parents, health restored, mountains moved.»
A Spiritual Revival for the 250th Anniversary
With the creation of the Religious Liberty Commission and the launch of America Prays, Trump aims to unite Americans around prayer and faith in God, reclaiming the identity of a country that from its inception proclaimed itself as “a nation under God.”
In a context of cultural tensions, attacks on religious communities, and debates over freedom of conscience, the former president bets on a spiritual strategy as the foundation of the country’s political and social future.
As the nation prepares to celebrate a quarter millennium of existence, Trump’s message is clear: the revival of the United States depends on a determined return to prayer, Christian principles, and trust in divine providence.
