French farmers dump potatoes to protest EU-Mercosur deal (VIDEO)

French farmers have taken to the streets to defend their livelihoods against the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, which they view as a direct threat to local production. By dumping tons of potatoes in Paris and mobilizing tractors toward Parliament, they sent a clear message: they refuse to compete at a disadvantage against cheaper imports from countries with less stringent sanitary and environmental standards.

These protests reflect a legitimate concern about the survival of Europe’s rural sector, low farm incomes, and the lack of protection in trade deals that prioritize industrial interests over food sovereignty. Supporting farmers means defending local production, rural employment, and quality standards that ensure safe and sustainable food for European consumers.
