Petro Compares ICE to Nazis: The Inflammatory Rhetoric of a Socialist President
The socialist narco-tyrant of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has disseminated a dangerous level of anti-American rhetoric. By explicitly comparing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to «the Nazi and Italian Brigades, the fascists,» Petro not only insults thousands of dedicated federal agents but also grotesquely and offensively trivializes the historical horror of the Holocaust and fascism. These statements are a desperate political calculation aimed at galvanizing his radical base, diverting attention from his own government’s failures, and feeding a victimization narrative that justifies his anti-Western agenda.
The Nazi brigades were the executing arm of a genocidal regime that systematically exterminated Jews, Roma, dissidents, and other groups. ICE is a law enforcement agency whose mission is to protect national sovereignty, enforce immigration laws passed by Congress, and combat human and drug trafficking. Equating agents who intercept fentanyl shipments to the SS who operated concentration camps is a blasphemy against the memory of the victims and a display of Petro’s absolute contempt for truth and decency. This rhetoric is the favorite weapon of the global radical left: when they are incapable of debating policies, they demonize their opponents by equating them with absolute evil.
Petro, in his call for «Hispanoamérica to unite,» reveals his true objective: not regional cooperation for development, but the formation of a united front against the United States, driven by resentment and a Marxist vision of international relations. His mention of protests in Venezuelan and Colombian cities, vaguely and tendentiously linking them to «social unrest in parts of the United States,» seeks to create a false narrative of victim solidarity and continental revolt. What he omits is that the protests in Colombia and Venezuela stem from popular discontent with socialist governments that have led to scarcity, repression, and economic ruin, while the stability and rule of law in the United States are the anchor of the region.
Federal agencies operate under strict protocols and the scrutiny of the law. By launching these slanders, Petro encourages distrust and hatred towards the United States, endangering not only the historically strong bilateral relationship between Colombia and the U.S., but also the security of American agents and the perception of millions of law-abiding citizens of Hispanic origin who value legality.
