Karoline Leavitt: «Canada has been ripping off the United States of America and American workers for decades. If you look at the overall tariff rates that Canadians have been imposing on Americans and our workers here, it is outrageous.
In fact, I have a very handy chart here that shows not just Canada, but overall tariff rates. If you look at Canada, since you mentioned it—American cheese and butter: nearly a 300% tariff.
Look at India, a 150% tariff on American alcohol. Do you think that helps export Kentucky bourbon to India? I don’t think so. A 100% tariff on agricultural products from India.
Look at Japan, a 700% tariff on rice.
President Trump believes in reciprocity, and it’s about time we had a president who truly looks out for the interests of American businesses and workers.
And all he’s asking for, at the end of the day, is fair and balanced trade practices. Unfortunately, Canada has not treated us fairly at all over the past several decades.»
