White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated that the President is fully committed to pushing forward major legislative reforms that would allow progress on key national priorities. Among these, she highlighted election integrity, mandatory voter ID, and ending universal mail-in voting — measures that, according to the White House, can only be achieved if Congress decides to eliminate the filibuster.
Leavitt emphasized that the filibuster “no longer serves the purpose it was originally created for” and has become a mechanism that blocks urgent reforms. She explained that the President wants to remove this obstacle to usher in “the most productive three years of any administration in modern history.”
During her remarks, Leavitt reminded the public that the President has already shown extraordinary momentum since the beginning of his administration, highlighting the largest middle-class tax cut, passed in just six months. However, she stressed that much more remains to be done and that eliminating the filibuster would allow rapid progress on issues deemed essential to strengthening democracy and modernizing the electoral system.
The press secretary also delivered a direct message to Republican lawmakers:
“They need to get up and move. The American people expect action… and so does the President.”
According to Leavitt, the administration has already held public and private conversations with Senate leaders, urging them to eliminate the filibuster and unlock initiatives considered vital for the country.
For the White House, this moment represents a historic opportunity to advance structural reforms. Leavitt stressed that with an aligned Congress and a highly productive President, the coming years could mark a turning point in governance, election security, and legislative efficiency.
“The President is ready to act,” she concluded. “Now it’s up to Congress to show that they are too.”
