Lawyer warns of possible legal maneuvers in Maduro and Cilia Flores case (VIDEO)

Attorney María Herrera Mellado analyzed the complex legal process facing Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in the United States, noting that both have separate legal teams, opening the door to different strategies within the same case.

According to her explanation, this division allows each of them to adopt independent tactics, including the possibility that one may seek to dismiss charges while the other avoids testifying, even invoking marital privilege as part of their defense. These types of maneuvers could play a key role in a case that is already shaping up to be lengthy and highly technical.

The case, which includes serious charges such as narcoterrorism and drug trafficking, is being handled in a federal court in New York and could extend for years due to its complexity and the multiple legal strategies available to the defense.

Herrera Mellado also highlighted that the defense may attempt to delay proceedings by arguing limited access to financial resources, claiming violations of the right to a fair trial, a speedy trial, and adequate legal representation—an argument that has already been raised in court.

Another key point she emphasized is the origin of funds used for the defense. If Maduro claims to lack financial resources but later secures funding, those funds would need to demonstrate a legitimate origin, potentially opening a new line of investigation tied to illicit activities.

Her analysis reinforces the idea that this is not only a legal battle but also a strategic one, where every move could carry significant implications. It also highlights the level of complexity surrounding figures linked to the Venezuelan regime, whose case continues to move forward under the scrutiny of the U.S. justice system.
