María Mellado warns about the Spanish government’s stance toward the United States and NATO (VIDEO)

On the program Sánchez Grass, lawyer and political analyst María Mellado addressed Spain’s response to logistical support requests from the United States in the context of the conflict with Iran, as well as citizens’ perceptions of the Spanish government’s management.

Mellado noted that many Spaniards are concerned about the government’s lack of response to requests from the United States and other allies to take action against regimes that openly violate human rights. She added that, according to her statements, some authorities have used international human rights conventions as an excuse for not fulfilling their strategic responsibilities, generating concern within the international community.

She emphasized that, according to current President Donald Trump, the United States could suspend certain trade exchanges with Spain because the country has refused to contribute 5% to the NATO budget. Mellado also highlighted that international figures, such as the Israeli Foreign Minister, have criticized Spain’s position, pointing out that the country “always sides with terrorists in cases like Hamas or human rights violators like Iran.”

María recalled that the United States maintains strategic bases on Spanish territory, such as the Morón Air Base, which has generated employment and integration with the local community. However, with the suspension of certain agreements and the redistribution of U.S. resources, she warned that the United States cannot be criticized for supporting other countries, such as Morocco, even in situations considered adverse to Spain.

Finally, she underscored the inability of Pedro Sánchez’s government to maintain cohesion and respond effectively to international pressure, which forces Spain to make increasingly significant concessions to sustain its position in complex strategic and geopolitical scenarios.
