Megyn Kelly criticizes the left over controversy following young athletes’ victory. (VIDEO)

Commentator and journalist Megyn Kelly delivered a strong criticism of sectors of the political left in the United States, accusing them of trying to turn what was a moment of national pride—led by young American athletes—into a controversy. Kelly argued that the reaction from certain groups shows just how “out of touch with reality the political left has become” when it comes to recognizing achievements that do not fit their ideological narrative.

During her remarks, Kelly referred to a phone call between President Donald Trump and the athletes, in which chants and expressions of celebration could be heard following the sporting victories. According to her explanation, those present were chanting “two by two” as a form of support and excitement, in a context where the women’s team had also won a gold medal. In her view, what was clearly a celebratory atmosphere was reinterpreted by progressive sectors as a supposed display of misogyny—something she described as a forced attempt to manufacture outrage.

The commentator said that the reaction from some left-wing activists and commentators does not stem from genuine concern for women, but rather from an ideological discomfort with the athletes themselves. In her opinion, the real issue for these sectors is that the young athletes openly express pride in their country, showing patriotic values and alignment with traditions that the left often criticizes or mocks.

Kelly also criticized what she sees as a recurring pattern within progressive discourse: discrediting or attacking any symbol of national pride that does not align with their political worldview. She noted that even before the episode took place, many critics were already predisposed to attack the athletes, questioning even their identity and the composition of the team.

Finally, Kelly argued that moments like these should unite the country around the merit and effort of young athletes who represent the United States on the world stage. However, she warned that the reaction from some sectors demonstrates how deeply ideological parts of the public debate in the country have become—even when it comes to celebrating national sporting achievements.
