A small plane transporting humanitarian aid supplies to Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa crashed Monday morning into a lake in a residential neighborhood in Coral Springs, Florida.
Authorities confirmed the deaths of two people, identified as Alexander Wurm (53) and his daughter Serena Wurm (22), who were part of the relief mission. The aircraft, a 1976 Beechcraft King Air owned by International Air Services, had taken off just minutes earlier from the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
The plane went down in a retention pond near NW 57th Way, causing no injuries on the ground, though debris scattered just a few yards from nearby homes.
The flight’s destination was Jamaica, where it was set to deliver emergency supplies following the hurricane. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff.
