Spain Faces the Jihadist Threat

The growing threat of Islamist terrorism in Spain has reached alarming levels in recent years, underscoring the urgent need for a stronger and more effective approach to national security. According to the latest data, Spain has become the country with the highest number of arrests related to Islamist terrorism in the European Union, with 84 arrests recorded in 2023 alone, accounting for 20% of the total arrests in the EU. This figure marks a significant increase compared to previous years, and highlights a chilling reality: never before, since the 11 March 2004 (11M) attacks, has the country registered such a high number of arrests linked to jihadist terrorism. An even more concerning fact is the growing youthfulness of those arrested, indicating that radicalization is increasingly affecting the younger generation at an alarming rate.

This phenomenon is not isolated. The rise of Islamist terrorism in Spain is directly related to several factors, including the increasing connection between illegal immigration and radicalization networks. The methods used by extremist groups to recruit individuals have become more sophisticated, exploiting social and economic vulnerabilities. In this context, Spain has become a key point in the fight against jihadism in Europe, and a strategic response that addresses both internal and external threats is required.

In response to this critical situation, the Vox party has stepped forward and presented a series of urgent measures to strengthen national security and effectively address the threat of Islamist terrorism. In a recent session in the Spanish Congress, Vox carried out an interpellation to the Minister of the Interior, highlighting the need to reinforce the country’s law enforcement, especially in the units dedicated to preventing and dismantling terrorist networks. As a result of this interpellation, an initiative was presented to ensure the effectiveness of security policies and guarantee that authorities have the appropriate resources to face the jihadist threat.

Among the most prominent proposals are the significant increase in the number of law enforcement personnel, particularly in units specialized in the fight against jihadist terrorism, as well as improving the working conditions and salaries of these security forces. Police officers, the Civil Guard, and other agencies responsible for security must be equipped with the means and support needed to combat such a complex and constantly evolving threat. Additionally, the proposal calls for ensuring that these forces are better trained to detect and neutralize radicalization risks from their early stages.

Another key aspect of Vox’s proposal is the creation of a reinforcement plan for the units responsible for preventing and dismantling the links between illegal immigration and terrorism. In recent years, it has been shown that irregular immigration can be connected to the networks that finance and promote extremist jihadist activity, making border security a critical element in the fight against terrorism. Therefore, Vox has called for additional resources to be allocated to vulnerable regions such as Ceuta, Melilla, and the Canary Islands, which are not only entry points for illegal immigrants but also potential hotspots for radicalization.

Furthermore, the proposal includes the elimination of subsidies and financial support to organizations linked to Islamist radicalization, the promotion of illegal immigration, or those that provide networks of support for terrorist groups. This kind of support, often disguised as charitable or cultural initiatives, has proven to be a channel for financing extremist activities, posing a direct threat to national security.

The repatriation of unaccompanied minors to their countries of origin is also part of the proposal, as these young individuals are particularly vulnerable and easy targets for radicalization networks. Repatriating these minors not only has an impact on security but is also closely related to their rights and well-being, preventing them from falling into the hands of jihadist groups that exploit their situation.

Vox’s approach is based on a fundamental principle that lies at the heart of any free and democratic society: «Without security, there is no freedom.» If the protection of citizens is not guaranteed and threats like Islamist terrorism are allowed to grow unchecked, the country’s stability and individual rights will be at risk. The integrity of Spain as a nation, its cultural identity, and its social cohesion depend on the ability of the authorities to confront these threats in a determined and effective manner.

Lastly, it is important to remember that national security is a collective commitment. While public authorities are responsible for ensuring protection, it is also the duty of all citizens to remain alert and collaborate in the creation of a secure, open, and free society. The future of Spain depends on its ability to maintain its identity, core values, and freedom, and the fight against Islamist terrorism will undoubtedly be one of the most crucial challenges in the years to come.

It is imperative that the government act with determination and vision in implementing these measures. Only with a strong, consistent, and well-funded security policy can Spain ensure that it remains a bastion of freedom, democracy, and prosperity in Europe.

If you don't like your job, remember that there is someone who has it harder While others complain about their jobs, a woman sweeps a cliffside to earn a living and keep it attractive for tourism In a world where many people are frustrated with their daily routines, there are those who carry out truly extreme jobs with humility, courage, and determination. Such is the case of a woman who, far from air-conditioned desks and urban labor benefits, risks her physical safety every day sweeping a cliffside. Her goal: to keep it clean and appealing for the visitors and tourists who come seeking a breathtaking view. The image is striking. This woman, with a simple broom and no sophisticated safety gear, sweeps loose soil and natural debris that wind and rain deposit at the cliff’s edge. There are no railings. No protection systems. Just the abyss, the broom, her sense of duty, and an iron will that speaks louder than any modern complaint. These types of scenes remind us of an uncomfortable but necessary truth: while many workers in the Western world fight against the “oppression” of coffee machines, AC, and flexible hours, others literally risk their lives just to survive. This woman doesn’t sweep just for cleanliness; she sweeps for dignity, for responsibility, and for the need to feed her family. The system that allows jobs like this, without proper conditions or recognition, is the same one many progressives prefer to ignore. Instead of focusing on improving these realities with common sense and hard work, much of the global elite prefers to push ideology, promote subsidies, victim narratives, and empty speeches that do nothing for the real working class. The radical left talks about social justice, but rarely highlights people like this woman. Where are the NGOs? Where is the mainstream media? Where is the outrage from celebrities who scream about climate change but say nothing about the labor conditions of those who actually work with the land? A healthy society must once again value real effort, hard work, and individual responsibility. This woman doesn’t need a virtual applause — she needs real opportunities: local development, productive investment, and a free economy that allows citizens to prosper without depending on crumbs from the state. It’s time to stop glorifying the resentment of those who have everything and still feel like victims, and start recognizing the bravery of those who have nothing but give it their all.
