Tren Maya: Costoso y Vacío

Diputado Rubén Moreira Valdez: «Bueno, aquí estoy en el famoso Tren Maya, viajando de Mérida a Campeche en estos dos vagones y el siguiente.

Y en el que yo voy, solo estamos mis dos acompañantes y yo. Nadie se ha subido en ninguna de las estaciones por las que hemos pasado.

Mañana enviaré un informe sobre el Tren Maya, y en mis redes sociales ya publiqué sobre lo que ha significado el Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Ángeles (AIFA), y también sobre la famosa Mexicana de Aviación.

Aclaro: el personal es excelente. Atienden muy bien a la gente.

Pero ahora entiendo por qué el costo de operar el Tren Maya es 25 veces mayor que lo que recauda.»

El Tren Maya, una de las obras emblemáticas del gobierno federal, representa actualmente una carga económica significativa para los ciudadanos mexicanos debido a sus elevados costos y sobrecostos. Originalmente, el proyecto fue presupuestado en 150 mil millones de pesos, pero diversas estimaciones independientes han señalado que el costo real se ha disparado a más de 500 mil millones de pesos, lo que representa un sobrecosto de entre 130 % y 228 %. Esta cifra supera incluso el presupuesto total del Capitolio estadounidense desde su fundación hasta 1982.

El Tren Maya ha sido financiado casi en su totalidad con recursos públicos, es decir, con dinero proveniente de los impuestos pagados por los mexicanos. Esto ha generado preocupación porque compromete la inversión en otras áreas prioritarias como salud, educación e infraestructura social. Además, la eficiencia financiera del proyecto está en duda: durante sus primeros seis meses de operación, solo se recaudaron 106.8 millones de pesos en boletos, mientras que el gasto operativo fue de 814.5 millones, lo que implica que se gastaron casi 700 pesos por cada 100 pesos recaudados.

En cuanto a los usuarios, las promesas iniciales de que el Tren Maya sería un transporte accesible para el pueblo no se han cumplido. Aunque se anunció que el costo del boleto sería de 60 pesos, el precio real en clase turista varía entre 1,166 y 1,862 pesos, sin contar gastos adicionales como el traslado a las estaciones o la comida a bordo, que pueden duplicar el precio total del viaje. Esto ha generado fuertes críticas en redes sociales, donde muchos lo consideran un proyecto elitista, “un tren para fifís”, alejado de las necesidades de la población común.

A esto se suman múltiples problemas técnicos, retrasos, fallas mecánicas y la falta de operación completa en todos los tramos del sistema, lo que no solo ha encarecido aún más la obra, sino que también ha afectado su credibilidad y utilidad.

En resumen, el Tren Maya no solo ha excedido con creces su presupuesto inicial, sino que genera altos costos de operación con baja recuperación de ingresos, lo que representa una presión directa sobre los contribuyentes mexicanos. Aunque fue presentado como una herramienta de desarrollo para el sureste del país, en la práctica se ha convertido en un proyecto insostenible económicamente, con beneficios cuestionables y un uso ineficiente de los recursos públicos.

This woman doesn’t sweep just for cleanliness; she sweeps for dignity, for responsibility, and for the need to feed her family.  The system that allows jobs like this, without proper conditions or recognition, is the same one many progressives prefer to ignore. Instead of focusing on improving these realities with common sense and hard work, much of the global elite prefers to push ideology, promote subsidies, victim narratives, and empty speeches that do nothing for the real working class.  The radical left talks about social justice, but rarely highlights people like this woman. Where are the NGOs? Where is the mainstream media? Where is the outrage from celebrities who scream about climate change but say nothing about the labor conditions of those who actually work with the land?  A healthy society must once again value real effort, hard work, and individual responsibility. This woman doesn’t need a virtual applause — she needs real opportunities: local development, productive investment, and a free economy that allows citizens to prosper without depending on crumbs from the state.  It’s time to stop glorifying the resentment of those who have everything and still feel like victims, and start recognizing the bravery of those who have nothing but give it their all.
