Trump Defends a Controlled Transition in Venezuela After Maduro’s Capture (VIDEO)

In his first interview following the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro, President Donald Trump clearly outlined the United States’ position on Venezuela’s future, emphasizing that the central objective is neither chaos nor improvisation, but a “prudent, secure, and truly responsible” transition. His remarks come amid a historic moment marked by the collapse of the chavista regime and years of suffering endured by the Venezuelan people.

Trump was emphatic in stating that the United States will not allow a power vacuum to lead to a repetition of the same mistakes that have plagued Venezuela for decades. “We do not want to get involved by allowing someone else to come in and repeat the same situation we’ve had for a long period of years,” he said, making clear that the priority is to prevent new corrupt elites or criminal structures from taking control of the country under a different name.

The president explained that, given the magnitude of the institutional, economic, and social damage caused by the regime, it will be necessary for a transitional authority to govern the country until real conditions exist for a safe transition.

In his message, Trump stressed that the essence of this new phase is clear: peace, freedom, and justice for the Venezuelan people. He highlighted that these principles are intended not only to benefit those who remain in the country, but also the millions of Venezuelans who were forced to flee and now live in exile, including many residing in the United States.

The president’s words stand in contrast to criticism from left-wing sectors that for years downplayed or justified Maduro’s dictatorship. For the Trump administration, the collapse of the regime confirms that international pressure, sanctions, and a firm stance against tyrannies were not only necessary, but morally right.

With this statement, Trump sets the tone for Venezuela’s new chapter: there will be no improvisation and no concessions to the old system. The transition, he said, will be carried out with order and responsibility, and with a clear objective—restoring to Venezuela the democracy, dignity, and future that were taken from it.
