Trump on Iran: “They want to talk, but they should have done it earlier”

During a recent exchange with the press, President Donald J. Trump was asked whether he had received any signs or messages from intermediaries suggesting that Iran wants to de-escalate the current conflict with Israel. His response was clear: “Yes, they want to talk… but they should have done it earlier.”

Trump explained that he had given a 60-day window to reach a deal. “I had 60 days and they had 60 days, and on the 61st day I said: we don’t have a deal. They have to make a deal,” he stated, pointing out that Iran missed a critical opportunity to prevent escalation.

The president acknowledged that the situation is “painful for both parties,” but was blunt in his assessment: “Iran is not winning this war.” His words reflect a straightforward evaluation of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, in which the U.S. has continued to show unwavering support for its ally Israel.

Trump called for diplomatic action, but with urgency and resolve: “They should talk, and they should talk immediately before it’s too late.” His message suggests that while the door to dialogue remains open, it comes with strict conditions and no signs of weakness toward Tehran.

With this stance, the president reaffirms his maximum pressure strategy against Iran while keeping the path to diplomacy available—if and only if Iran takes the first step.
