Honduran President Xiomara Castro stated that she will respect the result proclaimed by the National Electoral Council and allow for a peaceful transition of government, even as the country faces political and social uncertainty following the elections.
In a message to the nation, Castro said her decision is aimed at preserving national peace, emphasizing that—even under difficult circumstances—she will abide by the officially declared winner once the formal announcement is made. The president also confirmed that on January 27 she will conclude her term, becoming the first woman president in the country’s history to complete a presidential term.
However, the announcement comes amid a tense backdrop. Violent incidents, protests, and clashes have been reported in several parts of Honduras, raising concerns about public order. At the same time, final election results have not yet been released, fueling political tension and public distrust.
Various social and political sectors have called for calm and transparency in the electoral process, warning that continued delays in publishing definitive results could deepen the crisis. In this context, Xiomara Castro’s message seeks to project institutional stability, even as the country awaits clarity on the electoral outcome.
