I met Eduardo Araújo, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, at the Iberosphere Summit held in Madrid in 2022, as we both participated in different sessions. Among the many topics we discussed and agreed on, the cultural battle took a prominent place.
Araújo was critical of the Bolsonaro era, as he believed more should have been done, but this didn’t happen because, at times, people within the government didn’t want to “get involved in ideological matters”—a recurring error on the right, by the way. I remember the Chilean politician José Antonio Kast, who argued that it was essential to vote for Bolsonaro. Araújo didn’t disagree, but he added, “It’s not enough.”
On November 6, 2024, we woke up to Trump’s resounding victory; a Trump who has survived countless assassination attempts and whose slogan “Fight!” resonated deeply with a broad—and diverse—group of Americans who have united, tired of the “woke” tyranny. This social tyranny now permeates politics and economics, dragging all of the West into moral and material ruin.
If there’s one remarkable feature of Trump’s campaign, it was his response to Kamala Harris’s falsehoods by working at McDonald’s. The image was iconic in the United States, as many young people start their working lives in fast-food restaurants. In a country that values hard work, sacrifice, and merit, Trump went back to the roots.
The conservative, patriotic vote is won on the ground, with the workers, the entrepreneurs, those who want to grow and prosper and who feel pride in their culture and heritage. This profile is vast and hard to categorize, despite how the media and progressive oligarchies want us kneeling before their whimsical and incoherent dictates.
But, remembering Araújo—and without detracting from an admirable campaign—“it’s not enough.” This victory is a tremendous opportunity, but it must be used wisely. We must address the root issues. While “wokeism” and its allies, well-supported by the elites, dominate universities, educational systems, cinema, music, the press, and so on, these problems will persist.
Indeed, the apocalyptic media barrage is relentless. What can we say about Hollywood? The people, however, have rejected them.
There is no “foolproof plan.” Each of us must be responsible and fight every day for what belongs to us. “Wokeism” will not accept the results and will not relent. It is well-armed, in every sense. We must not, and cannot, lose sight of that.
However, we must and can seize the opportunity before us. Now more than ever, it’s time to fight. Fight!
