Boric Calls José Antonio Kast After Electoral Victory, Highlights an “Orderly and Respectful” Transition in Chile

Chilean President Gabriel Boric held a phone call with José Antonio Kast, the winner of the presidential election, in an institutional gesture that marked the formal beginning of the country’s transition process. The conversation, broadcast publicly, was followed by millions of Chileans and delivered clear messages about governance, democracy, and responsibility of the State.

During the call, Boric congratulated Kast on his clear victory at the polls, officially recognizing him as the new President of the Republic of Chile and, therefore, the leader of all Chilean men and women. The president emphasized that the office carries a “great responsibility” that must be assumed with humility, hard work, and commitment to the country.

“The result consolidates our democracy,” Boric stated, highlighting the value of institutions and respect for the will of the people, regardless of who may be celebrating or feeling disappointed by the electoral outcome. In this context, he stressed that Chile “is greater than any individual” and that the country is built upon the work of those who governed before.

The president assured that his administration will provide all necessary conditions for an institutional handover worthy of what citizens deserve. He also said he has instructed ministers, undersecretaries, and technical teams to begin coordination with the president-elect’s team to ensure a smooth, orderly, and respectful transition.

As part of this process, Boric formally invited Kast to meet at La Moneda Palace the following day to discuss in detail matters of state continuity, national priorities, and key aspects of the transfer of power. The meeting will include members of both teams, while also allowing time for a private conversation between the two leaders.

The outgoing president highlighted the importance of direct dialogue, noting that holding power often involves moments of solitude and difficult decisions, and that sharing experience can be beneficial “for the good of the nation.”

For his part, José Antonio Kast thanked Boric for the call and the willingness shown by the outgoing government, confirming his attendance at the meeting along with his wife, María Pía Adriasola, and members of his team. The president-elect welcomed the tone of the conversation and expressed his interest in advancing the necessary coordination for a responsible transition.

The call was widely interpreted as a sign of political stability at a crucial moment for the country, reinforcing Chile’s image as a solid democracy capable of managing changes in power with institutional respect.

With this first exchange, a new political chapter begins in Chile, marked by the challenge of maintaining social cohesion, strengthening governance, and responding to the expectations of citizens who expressed themselves democratically at the ballot box.
