JD Vance Urges Democrats to Join Effort to Reopen the Government and End Political Deadlock
Vice President JD Vance called on Democrats to join the bipartisan effort to reopen the U.S. government, noting that multiple votes in the House of Representatives have already shown majority support for doing so.
“Fifty-two Republicans and three Democrats have consistently voted to reopen the government, but sixty votes are needed,” Vance said. “All it takes to end this madness—to pay air traffic controllers, TSA agents, pilots, and to keep food assistance benefits flowing to Americans who need them—is for five reasonable Democrats to join us.”
The vice president emphasized that Republicans are willing to discuss any policy issue — whether health care, taxes, or regulations — but “not at gunpoint.” “You cannot hold the American people’s government hostage and then demand everything you want just to pay air traffic controllers,” he warned.
“Let’s reopen the government and then sit down to work out a compromise for the good of the American people,” he concluded.
