«Do you think the markets are waiting for that agreement, that plan that explains what all of this will look like? I believe so, for two reasons. One is that we need to give them a plan, as you said. The second is to show that agreements can be made, and I believe they can. If the rumors are true and some countries are getting closer and something is in the works, I think that will go a long way in calming the market, because it will show there’s a way to resolve it.
There are a lot of trade agreements. I remember after Brexit, people said, well, we’ll just go out and negotiate 275 trade deals, the United Kingdom said. I don’t think they’ve even finished a third of those, probably. I don’t know the exact number. It’s complex. It’s like three-dimensional. But just having a framework saying, hey, it’s not going to get worse next time — I think that would be helpful.»
