Nick Sortor was the victim of a violent robbery in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis while carrying out his work as an independent journalist. According to reports, a group of Somali thugs robbed him of his camera, valued at around one thousand dollars, in an incident that was even captured on video, during which Sortor was briefly dragged along the street as he tried to recover his equipment.
This attack not only constitutes an unacceptable criminal act, but also a direct assault on press freedom and the right to report. The violence inflicted on Sortor deserves absolute condemnation, and those responsible must be identified and brought to justice without excuses or relativization.
