The statements of Pinchas Goldschmidt, president of the Conference of European Rabbis, are controversial for linking the rise of the right in Europe almost exclusively to immigration and cultural insecurity, a simplification that ignores much broader economic, social, and political factors. By portraying this phenomenon as an almost automatic reaction of “long-established” Europeans, his analysis risks justifying social tensions without addressing the concrete responsibilities of governments and institutions.
Likewise, while his call to jointly combat Islamophobia and antisemitism sounds conciliatory, it avoids delving into the specific causes of the rise in violence and the role played by certain failed integration policies. The appeal to past initiatives and interreligious dialogue, though symbolically valuable, appears insufficient in the face of real problems of security, social cohesion, and legality currently affecting many European cities.
