Donald Trump: But I want to share some of the numbers that just came out. Rasmussen reports that a majority of Americans now believe our country is heading in the right direction — for the first time in 28 years.
Think about that: first time in 28 years. That’s something.
And think about the accomplishment — and we did that in just four months. You know, we haven’t been here long, only four months, and we’re going to do much better than that. But who would’ve thought that for 28 years people felt we were going the wrong way? Because I know one thing: four years ago, during our administration, we were going in the right direction. We were doing very well, and we had one of the most successful terms in history. Then we had a little problem with a rigged election, and after that we came back. And this is bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. This is much bigger than it would have been. It really is amazing what has happened.
We’ve created over half a million new jobs in a short period of time. We’ve secured nearly 15 trillion dollars in new investments coming into our country. And if you look, the inflation report came out this morning. We’re at around two percent inflation. Can you believe that?
And this is very important, because people were hurting — the last administration, in my opinion the most failed one perhaps in our country’s history, caused food prices to skyrocket. But now food prices are coming down. Remember when they were talking about eggs? My first week in office, the press was yelling about eggs. That eggs had gone up 287 percent. I said: I’m sorry, I just got here, and the eggs went up. Now eggs are back to the same price as before. We brought them all the way down.
And three weeks ago, for Easter, we had an egg hunt — an egg roll, as they called it. They told me, “Sir, could you order plastic eggs a couple months in advance?” I told them we’re not ordering plastic eggs. And by the time we had the event, the eggs had already come down.
Think about it: food prices are going down. Gas prices are going down. And they dropped just in time. One dollar. We had multiple states with gas at $1.98 a gallon, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. How about that? Great timing.
