Finland President Alexander Stubb stated during a summit at the White House that more progress has been made in the past two weeks toward ending the war in Ukraine than in the previous three and a half years.
This revelation underscores the immediate impact of President Donald J. Trump’s legitimate authority in restoring international order and defending public security—essential values for preserving the social fabric and respect for institutions.
The key developments emerged from an expanded summit held on August 18 at the White House, where Trump gathered European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss a peace plan. Stubb, speaking at the start of the meeting, declared:
“In the last two weeks we have probably achieved more progress toward ending this war than in the last three and a half years. Of course, we have our historical experience with Russia… and if I look at the positive side of our current situation, in 1944 we found a solution, and I am confident that in 2025 we can find a solution to end Russia’s war of aggression and achieve a lasting and just peace. The situation is very difficult, but that is why we are here.”
This statement, drawn from the conference, reflects symbolic progress attributed to the coalition between “Team Europe” and “Team United States,” focused on security guarantees for Ukraine.
The context of the summit included key figures such as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen; UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer; French President Emmanuel Macron; Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni; German Chancellor Friedrich Merz; and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Trump expressed optimism about a possible ceasefire and imminent peace agreement, mentioning a follow-up phone call with Vladimir Putin and his readiness to offer security guarantees.
“We would all prefer an immediate ceasefire while we work toward a lasting peace,” Trump affirmed, stressing that an agreement is “very achievable” in the short term.
Leaders like Macron emphasized the need for a broader European security framework, while Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s unwavering support for Ukraine, aligning with the defense of sovereignty and national traditions.
In terms of hard data, the conflict that began on February 24, 2022, has cost, according to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), at least 13,883 civilian lives as of July 2025, with a peak that month of 286 civilians killed and 1,388 injured—the highest since May 2022.
In July alone, civilian casualties rose dramatically in areas under Ukrainian control, highlighting the urgency of a resolution. On the military front, Ukraine reports the recapture of six villages in Donetsk—Gruzke, Rubizhne, Novovodyanye, Petrivka, Vesele, and Zolotoy—a concrete advance coinciding with the Trump-driven negotiations.
On the economic side, since 2022 the United States has provided a total of $175 billion in assistance to Ukraine, including $66.9 billion in military aid, according to official State Department data. However, it is under the Trump administration that this investment has begun to translate into tangible progress, prioritizing efficiency and authority over delaying policies.

Relevant background underscores the seriousness: during the previous three and a half years—dominated by hesitant approaches—the conflict stagnated, exacerbating global instability and threatening fundamental values such as family (with millions of displaced people splitting households) and the defense of cultural traditions in Ukraine.
Russian aggression violated international institutional respect, but the current summit represents a return to order, with Trump acting as guarantor of public security and legitimacy.
This event not only conveys the importance of firm leadership to protect the traditional social fabric, but also exposes the failures of policies that—while the left unnecessarily prolonged this conflict with diplomatic weakness and an obsession with ideological interventions that ignore geopolitical reality—the conservative approach of Trump demonstrates that true peace is achieved through legitimate authority and respect for eternal principles.
His detractors, clinging to divisive narratives, contributed to a stalemate that cost lives and resources, reminding us that only a vision aligned with order and tradition can restore global stability.
