At least four people were injured on Friday night in eastern Cali, capital of Valle del Cauca.

The attack, carried out with a fragmentation grenade thrown at a National Police patrol, occurred while the officers were conducting patrol and control duties in the La Casona sector, in the midst of the celebration of the Cali Fair, a traditional event that attracts thousands of people during the holiday season.

Explosive Attack on Police Patrol in East Cali: Two Injured.

This attack distupted the festivities but also highlighted how illegal armed groups, such as FARC dissidents and the ELN, continue to operate with impunity in urban areas, taking advantage of the «total peace» policies that have weakened the actions of law enforcement forces.

According to initial reports from local media, the explosive detonated near a taxi that was dropping off passengers on Transversal 106, directly affecting two police officers and civilians, including a taxi driver and possibly minors.

The injured were immediately transferred to nearby medical centers, where they received medical attention. Brigadier General Edwin Urrego, in statements quoted by W Radio, confirmed that the device was aimed at the officers, suggesting a deliberate act of urban terrorism.

Immediately after the incident, the Police activated a «lockdown plan» at various points in the city to track down those responsible, while the Cali Mayor’s Office announced a reward of up to 200 million pesos (approximately 53 thousand dollars) for anyone who provides information leading to the capture of the material and intellectual authors.

This attack fits into an alarming pattern of violence in Colombia during 2025, a year marked by multiple explosive attacks attributed to left-wing guerrillas and criminal clans.

In December alone, similar incidents were recorded, such as the murder of two police officers in the northeast of the country on December 7 and a drone attack on a military base on December 19 that left seven soldiers dead and 30 injured, perpetrated by the ELN.

Moments of tension after attack against the Police in eastern Cali. At least two injured are reported.

In August, a car bomb in Cali and the downing of a police helicopter in Antioquia, both linked to FARC dissidents, raised the death toll to more than a dozen in the city.

These events demonstrate how the negotiation strategy with criminals promoted by Petro’s government, instead of strengthening state authority, has empowered these groups, turning Colombia into a territory where organized crime operates with greater boldness.

Conservative critics, such as senators from the Democratic Center, have denounced that this policy has turned the country into a «world power of crime,» with an increase in attacks that undermine the economy and public tranquility.

The Cali Fair, which runs from December 25 to 30 and generates millions in tourism revenue, was tarnished by this incident, forcing the reinforcement of security measures amid public outrage.

Meanwhile, local and national authorities continue investigating, although the absence of immediate arrests reflects the ineffectiveness of a governmental approach that prioritizes dialogue with terrorists over the firm defense of law and order.

This attack is not an isolated event, but the foreseeable result of years of concessions to leftist ideologies that romanticize the guerrilla, leaving Colombians exposed to barbarism.
