The United States Department of Justice filed a formal indictment this Monday against Nicolás Maduro Guerra, the son of the Venezuelan dictator, for his alleged involvement in a complex network of cocaine and weapons trafficking.

According to the legal filing, Maduro Guerra—also known as “Nicolasito” or “The Prince”—allegedly conspired with terrorists from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and other drug trafficking groups to send cocaine into the United States.

Among the acts cited, the document details that around 2020, the Venezuelan leader’s son met in Medellín with FARC dissidents to negotiate the logistics and terms of cocaine shipments from Colombia to the United States, agreeing to exchanges that included weapons in return for illicit drug loads that were expected to continue through 2026.

The U.S. also claims that Maduro Guerra was responsible for discussing with the FARC the payment for cocaine shipments through weapons, with the drugs being sent to ports in New York and Miami under the protection of the National Guard and other police forces controlled by the chavista regime, even using aircraft with diplomatic cover.

This case is part of a broader series of indictments that have also implicated other high-ranking officials of the Maduro regime on charges of narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States, and collaboration with transnational criminal organizations.

The indictments also reflect a network of alliances with groups such as the ELN, the Sinaloa Cartel, Los Zetas, and Tren de Aragua, which according to court documents allegedly collaborated in the transportation and distribution of drugs toward the northern part of the continent.

The filing clearly describes the collaboration between the Venezuelan dictatorship and the terrorist group FARC, among other drug trafficking organizations, in a network linked to senior officials of the Venezuelan government, including the tyrant Nicolás Maduro, his wife Cilia Flores, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, and other political and military leaders.

The indictment of “Nicolasito,” Maduro’s son, on charges linking drug trafficking and arms trafficking with terrorist organizations such as the FARC not only intensifies international pressure on Venezuela, but also highlights deep concerns about how Venezuela’s ruling elites operate through alliances with criminal networks.
