Cuban dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel appeared on national radio and television broadcast to publicly confirm that Cuban officials have recently held conversations with representatives of the United States government.

“These conversations have been aimed at seeking solutions, through the path of dialogue, to the bilateral differences we have between the two nations,” declared Díaz-Canel from the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Communist Party.

The process, which he described as “very sensitive” and in “initial phases,” seeks to identify problems and possible areas of cooperation under principles of equality and respect for sovereignty.

The admission arrives amid full energy asphyxiation: for more than three months no fuel ship has entered, which has caused massive blackouts and an “immeasurable” impact on the life of the Cuban people, as the dictator himself acknowledged.

This crisis is a direct consequence of the encirclement imposed by the Trump administration, which has cut off supplies from Venezuela and other allies.

The regime, which for decades has blamed the “blockade” for all its failures, now finds itself forced to sit down and negotiate following the repeated warnings from President Donald Trump that Cuba is in “its last moments of life.”American conservative firmness is delivering visible results against the socialist model that only generates misery and repression.

We had previously reported this in Gateway Hispanic: the Trump administration and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have promoted an “off-ramp” offer that would allow the Castros and Díaz-Canel to cede power without forced exile in exchange for concessions in ports, energy, and tourism. Today that pressure is materializing.

Trump’s pressure has brought the Cuban regime to the edge of the abyss, opening a historic breach toward the freedom that the people deserve. Communism is surrendered before reality.
